That line is from my song Red Robin, on the album BYRDS. The song is me chewing on a verse from the Book of the Law, Chapter I. Nuit says: "All sorrows are but as shadows; they pass & are done; but there is that which remains." I wrote it as: "All sorrows are but as shadows, they pass when light agrees."
That line has been a lifeline for me. I have had many moments where I did not want to be alive in my life. Where the sorrow felt permanent. Where I could not see a way through. And then, often in those moments, a red robin would land in front of me.
Hope is not something I have to earn. It is the morning keeping its word. It is the day wanting me in it. It is consent. It is staying.
I wrote this song because I needed to believe that. I still need to believe that. I greet the hope when I can. I forget some days. I start over the next day.
The line "hope is the day wanting you in it" is a reminder that the day itself is on my side. That I belong here. That I am allowed to be in it.
I am not a teacher. I am just practicing. I share this in case anyone else needs the reminder too.
