I wrote this song for the days I need the mirror to speak for me. The days I do not have the words. The days I just need to look and stay.
Louise Hay is where I started. She taught that we have been bullying ourselves for years, and that maybe we could try being kind instead. But I could not get there right away.
I could not say "I approve of myself" or "I love myself" at first. Those words felt too big. Too far away.
So I started more general. I started with "I am willing."
I am willing to like myself.
I am willing to change.
I am willing to receive.
The mirror work taught me that I do not have to be fixed to be loved. I do not have to be polished to be held. I just have to show up. I just have to look. I just have to stay.
"I love you anyway" became my anchor. A reminder that I am allowed to be a mess. I am allowed to get angry. I am allowed to be soft. I am allowed to feel at ease.
I am still learning to believe it. Some days I do. Some days I do not. I greet the mirror when I can. I forget some days. I start over the next day.
May you be held by the words until you can hold them yourself.
May your reflection soften when you look.
May you rest in the knowing that you do not have to be fixed to be loved.
May you feel the warmth of a love that asks nothing of you.
