There are blue jays that live behind my house. I love how noisy they are. They fly by my window all the time. They barge into the day like they own it. They peck at everything. They interrupt. They do not apologize.
I still get in my head a lot.
I replay conversations. I rehearse what I should have said. I imagine how people might be perceiving me or get hung up on a comment someone left. I get stuck in the loops. I get quiet. I get still. I get frozen.
The Blue Jay does not do that.
The Blue Jay shows up loud. The Blue Jay says "speak." The Blue Jay pecks the sorry off my lips. The Blue Jay says "you have what it takes."
"You've been in your head. There's a move to make."
I hear that line and I know it is true. I know I have been spinning. I know I have been waiting. I know I have been overthinking instead of acting.
The move does not have to be big. The move just has to be a move. A step. A word. A choice. A little shift. Something that breaks the freeze.
The Blue Jay says "don't fear the leap. The tree will still be there when you land."
The blue jays outside my window are a constant reminder for me.
