That line is from my song Mirror, Mirror Off The Wall. It is the most streamed song I have written. And it still surprises me that something so personal could ripple out like this.
I wrote this song for the days I need the mirror to speak for me. The days I do not have the words. The days I just need to look and stay.
Louise Hay is where I started. She taught that we have been bullying ourselves for years, and that maybe we could try being kind instead. But I could not get there right away. I could not say "I approve of myself" or "I love myself" at first. Those words felt too big. Too far away. So I started more general.
I started with "I am willing."
I am willing to like myself.
I am willing to change.
I am willing to receive.
The mirror work taught me that I do not have to be fixed to be loved. I do not have to be polished to be held. I just have to show up. I just have to look. I just have to stay.
