I made this card for the ones who need to hear that they are loved without conditions.
For the ones who have been told they are too much.
For the ones who have been told they are not enough.
For the ones who have learned to peck and bite and freeze because that is what survival looked like.
This song started in the mirror. It started as a conversation with myself.
A way of saying:
I see you.
All of you.
The messy parts.
The angry parts.
The scared parts.
The parts that learned to survive in ways that were not pretty.
I love you anyway.
But the words have rippled.
I find myself saying them in my head to my son when he is in the middle of a meltdown.
I find myself saying them in my head to my husband.
I find myself saying them in my head to anyone who needs to hear that they are not too much. That they are not broken. That they are not unlovable.
"I love you anyway.
Even the parts that learned to peck.
You ruffled thing.
Even when you freeze mid-flight.
Even the parts that learned to bite.
You little storm."
You do not have to be polished.
You do not have to be perfect.
You do not have to have it all together.
You can be a mess.
You can be a storm.
